Saving Wildlife Habitat:

At least one-third of this land provides high quality habitat for threatened desert tortoise which, according to the US Fish and Wildlife survey of the property, may well be the most significant desert tortoise habitat in the entire Morongo Basin.  Bighorn sheep, mule deer, bobcat, gray fox, skunk, coyote, badger and mountain lion are all known to use the area as well.  This natural area of Joshua Tree is a significant wildlife migration corridor.  Much like a freeway system for wildlife, it provides for the safe movement of animals in and out of the national park as well as hosting an intact, pristine vegetative community - a critical component of a healthy ecosystem.

Watersheds, Dark Skies and Fresh Air:

By protecting this critical wildlife corridor, we have prevented it from future development.  Losing this northern end of the mountain system would not only have destroyed our wildlife habitat, but if used for development, we would have lost a part of what we hold so dearly to our hearts; our watersheds, our beautiful desert night skies and our fresh clean air.  With the help of our partners and supporters, we preserved this precious gift.

Future Generations:

The Quail Mountain Project is unique in what it offers: intact, pristine habitat, a healthy desert ecosystem, natural watersheds, critical wildlife corridors, beautiful view shed, and a diverse population of wildlife.  Saving this land and others like it creates a balance in nature - our legacy that we will pass on to future generations.  It honors those that came before us, whose evidence of daily life lie in these same mountains.  Our legacy protects all of our futures.

Enriching Our Lives:

Land conservation not only provides for our most basic needs, but it also enriches our lives immeasurably. Our memories lie in the land that surrounds us; it is our identity and it feeds our bodies and souls.  Everyone deserves to see the stars at night and hear the sounds of nature.  Together we conserve this sacred land that we all love.

Scenic Landscapes:

Our natural landscapes disappear at over 5,000 acres per day to development.  Protecting this land allows us to continue to look up into our mountains and down into our valleys and see these majestic landscapes untouched by human hands.  Thirty foot tall Pine Canyon Falls run after prolonged rainfall, ancient Joshua Trees stand tall in every direction, desert wildflowers and cactus flower blooms blanket the landscape during certain times of the year; this land is untouched by human hands and is a sight to behold.  It is currently being conveyed to Joshua Tree National Park for long-term management and protection to assure that the ecosystem remains intact.
