MOJAVE DESERT LAND TRUST UPCOMING EVENTS

FOLLOWING IS INFORMATION ABOUT OUR UPCOMING EVENTS. PLEASE CONSIDER FEATURING THESE IN YOUR PUBLICATION AND/OR INCLUDING THEM IN YOUR CALENDAR OF EVENTS. THANK YOU.

April 2nd Climate Change and the California Desert Conference

Please join us in Palm Desert for the 3rd annual Climate Change and the California Desert Conference.

Mojave Desert Land Trust is proud to help sponsor the National Parks Conservation Association’s Climate Change and the California Desert Conference. The purpose of the conference is to educate youth, citizens, elected officials, students and land management agencies about how climate change will affect our California desert and our California desert national parks.

The need for this conference has never been greater. Scientists describe the Southwestern United States as a “Climate Responsive” area, a region that will be most affected by climate change. In fact, many researchers in Joshua Tree National Park have already noticed an increase in the mortality of Joshua Trees and a reduction in reproduction of this important species. Joshua trees are an important species ecologically because many animals that live in the Mojave Desert depend on them for food, water, shelter and reproduction. Climate change will also affect water resources, invasive species, endangered species and our local economy. For more information about the Conference, including speakers and topics, please visit http://www.npca.org/take_action/upcoming_events/climate-change-conference.html

FREE ADMISSION! Please bring your coffee mug & your own lunch or buy lunch locally.

WHEN: Saturday, April 2, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (Registration at 8:30 a.m.)
